What's the difference?

...between cheap bananas and fairly traded bananas?

photo of banana farmer

Fairly traded bananas have had a fair price paid for them covering the true cost of production, enabling the farmer to feed, clothe and educate his children.

Cheap bananas have been bought for $1 for a 40lb box, (2p per lb) this barely covers the cost of production and the farmers' children go hungry and cannot go to school.

Which bananas do you think we should buy?

FAIRTRADE is the trademark, which is given to products, made by companies who feel morally that they must end exploitation, and allow the developing countries a fair price for their labours.

Our aim is to…

  • inform the people of Sandhurst, Berkshire about the benefits of fairtrade for developing countries,
  • encourage people to use fairtrade products, e.g. by giving talks to voluntary, business groups and schools,
  • to organise and support local fairtrade events.
